Hi, we’re Jackie and Harrison! Our journey started in 2021, when we bought a home that just so happened to come with a few unexpected residents—a small flock of chickens. What began as a surprise quickly turned into a passion. We were instantly hooked by their quirky personalities, their calming presence, and the daily magic of gathering fresh eggs.

Over time, we dove deeper into breeding, focusing on rare and beautiful egg colors—from deep chocolate browns to mossy greens and speckled wonders. Our flock is free-range, deeply loved, and fed only the best, because we believe happy, healthy chickens lay the most vibrant, nutritious eggs.

As our homestead grew, so did our desire to live more intentionally. We began making slow-fermented sourdough products using traditional methods and handcrafted tallow skincare from grass-fed fat. Both are a natural extension of how we live—rooted in simplicity, nourishment, and full-circle use of what the land provides.

Flock Around & Find Out

This is our “fun pen”—but don’t let the name fool you, there’s still a lot of intention behind it.

This year, we scaled back to really focus on what matters most to us: strong plumage and exceptional egg color. This flock is all about variety and depth—speckles, olives, heavy blooms, and those dark, moody eggs we’re always chasing.

Every pairing is carefully selected. While you’ll find some Black Copper Marans roosters over this group, there’s also a mix of later-generation olive eggers, a Silverudd Blues rooster, and Crele Penedesenca worked in.

If you’re not set on purebreds and just want a flock that produces a truly stunning, diverse egg basket, this is the one for you.

Black Copper Marans

Our Black Copper Marans program is divided into two focused pens: heavy bloom (purple bloom) layers and dark egg layers. We are extremely selective in what we keep—out of over 100 birds hatched in 2025, only 16 hens per pen made the cut here on our farm. Each hen has proven herself by consistently laying strong, healthy eggs suitable for quality offspring.

For our bloom line, we’ve selected specific hens that show consistent expression of the trait. That said, bloom can be unpredictable—not every egg will display a bloom, even from bloom lines. These birds are carriers, and on average, only about 30% of offspring will express the bloom trait, so it is never guaranteed.

Crele Penedesenca

Our Crele Penedesenca program traces back to lines from Sad Scientist and Blue Pastures.

As many breeders know, Crele Penedesencas in the U.S. have become heavily inbred, which has started to bring out genetic weaknesses. We are actively working to address this by thoughtfully outcrossing to introduce new bloodlines and strengthen overall flock health while maintaining key breed characteristics.

Our roosters over this flock carry the correct carnation comb, an important trait we are preserving. While our hens are not currently bred to Standard of Perfection (SOP), our primary focus with this group is egg quality and color as we continue to refine the line.

This is a work-in-progress breeding program, centered on building healthier, more resilient birds without losing what makes Penedesencas unique.
