The Chicken Tenders
Hi, we’re Jackie and Harrison! Our journey started in 2021, when we bought a home that just so happened to come with a few unexpected residents—a small flock of chickens. What began as a surprise quickly turned into a passion. We were instantly hooked by their quirky personalities, their calming presence, and the daily magic of gathering fresh eggs.
Over time, we dove deeper into breeding, focusing on rare and beautiful egg colors—from deep chocolate browns to mossy greens and speckled wonders. Our flock is free-range, deeply loved, and fed only the best, because we believe happy, healthy chickens lay the most vibrant, nutritious eggs.
As our homestead grew, so did our desire to live more intentionally. We began making slow-fermented sourdough products using traditional methods and handcrafted tallow skincare from grass-fed fat. Both are a natural extension of how we live—rooted in simplicity, nourishment, and full-circle use of what the land provides.
The OG’s
We call them the OG’s, but they aren’t our first birds. These are the birds that started our breeding program. This coop is a mixture of chocolate eggers (black copper marans and crele penedesenca cross), olive eggers and crele penedesenca. The rooster covering this flock is a dark egg gene Welsummer. We’re talking about marans level dark, not light with heavy dark speckles. The birds are extremely friendly. The eggs you’ll expect from them are olives, dark chocolate, and a chance of speckles or blooms. You can find these in our “Flock Around and Find Out” dozens.
The Chocolate Factory
The Chocolate Factory is our coop of solely purebred Black Copper Marans. This coop was specifically bred to create dark egg layers. In 2025, we brought in multiple lines, hatched about 200 eggs, and heavy culled to get down to 30 layers that made the cut. Don’t worry, the girls and boys who didn’t were re-homed to egg laying households. While SOP isn’t our main focus, we do strive to keep birds who follow standards. Our roosters in this flock are from the original Greenfire Farms line. We’re talking the line that was imported over 15 years ago. A local breeder in West Virginia has kept this line and kept it closed. Our hens are from popular breeders known for carrying incredibly dark genetics.
Flock Around & Find Out
Flock Around & Find Out are the fun ones. They’re a complete genetic mix up. Including heavy bloom layers, heavily speckled layers from Hollyoaks, and our purebred purple Black Copper Marans. They’re all under two SOP Black Copper Marans roosters who also carry a heavy bloom gene. You’ll find breed traits from Silverrudds, Cream Legbars, Black Copper Marans, Welsummers and more.
To be clear, our Flock Around & Find Out dozen will not include the Heavy Bloom Black Copper Marans, but they might possibly include purebred Black Copper Marans.
